Mariah Carey, right now, is the best example of how it’s possible to completely retain one’s diva status while not actually making music, concerts in Austria excepted. It’s the grand diva clause, perhaps; after multiple decades and multiple styles–the diva traditionalism of the ’90s, collaborations with The-Dream of the ’00s–you’re earned your reign. All this, of course, also means that when we get a 20-second clip of new music, though, it’s absolutely newsworthy.
The new music today is “Bring It On Home.” The track’s definitely in the “Hero” mode, which makes sense, because when you’re writing a song for a presidential fundraiser (in this case, Obama’s), collaborating with The-Dream isn’t the obvious route. (Although the world in which it were would be interesting.) Twenty seconds of the track are below. We apologize for your needing to tilt your head and squint to watch it.
As for a release, though, you’re probably out of luck:
Listening to Bring It On Home, wishing I could put this out! “Strength is what we need and love keeps us alive…” twitter.com/MariahCarey/st…
