Took ‘em long enough. It feels like the moment has passed a bit on Gotye and Kimbra’s “Somebody That I Used to Know (fun times, but we’re onto Carly Rae now, thanks) but to folks for whom Star Wars remains the be-all, end-all of popular culture—like, say, those of Teddie Films, familiar to Popdust reader for their “Friday” parody video “Primeday,” and now back with “The Star Wars That I Used to Know”—keeping up with the Top 40 probably isn’t a priority of paramount importance. (No offense, Star Wars nerds—I liked Empire Strikes Back as much as anyone. Just sayin’.)
Then again, maybe it just took a really fucking long time to make this video. Like the Gotye original, it involves a lot of painting (body and otherwise) and stop-motion camera work, and one thing you gotta say about the Teddie Films bunch—the attention to detail is really quite tremendous. So even if references to the betrayal of having Han not shooting first isn’t really what does it for you, you have to respect the effort that went into their essentially shot-for-shot recreation of the Gotye video.
Speaking of “Call Me Maybe”…when do you think we can be expecting “Call Me AT-AT”? We’ll check back in a few months.
