When you think Nelly Furtado, you think barn-storming club-stompers, right? No, of course you don’t, silly! That’s what makes it so interesting to see that she has taken on Calvin Harris’ “Feel So Close,” arguably the best dance hit of 2012, with naught but an acoustic guitar for accompaniment. It’s an interesting thought, though perhaps a bit more interesting in theory than in execution. Not that “Feel So Close” isn’t a good enough song to weather the stripped-down treatment, but, well…there just aren’t a lot of lyrics, as evidenced by the fact that Nelly has to add a couple of her own verses to flesh the song out a bit. Also, if you’re gonna cover it bare-bones like this, why not use a piano for the primary accompaniment, like the original song?
Still, fine idea, and glad to see that Nelly has similar taste in 2012 pop to us. Can’t wait to hear her taking on Charli XCX’s “You’re the One” next!
